In 1881, Daniel Haynes started using cotton to make mattresses for his family and friends in a small town in Texas called Sealy. Daniel Haynes decided to sell his cotton compression patent, along with all other mattress patents and ideas, to fellow Texan Earl Edwards, in 1906.
